INT. COUNCIL MEETING - NIGHT Rick, Daryl, Carol, Hershel, and Glenn sit around a table. A chalkboard reads: “DAYS SINCE LAST DEATH: 30.”
They back away. But it’s too late. Zach, panicking, trips over a tray of syringes. A needle skids across the floor. It doesn’t pierce him, but his hand lands in the puddle of black vomit.

They find the source. In the basement, a locked steel door. Behind it, the sound of wet, rhythmic slamming. Rick peers through a small window. His face goes white.
“There’s a veterinary college twenty miles west. Abandoned. We hit it at dawn.” But it’s too late
Rick nods. “I’ll go.”
Inside, a walker is chained to a radiator. But it’s not dead. It’s sick . Its eyes are milky, but it’s crying. Black, tarry blood oozes from its eyes and mouth. It sees them. It doesn’t snarl. It speaks —a wet, gurgling whisper: “Don’t… let me… turn…” It doesn’t pierce him, but his hand lands
“New variant. Airborne? Fluid-borne? We don’t touch anything.”
