If a trans woman is attracted to men, she may feel she has less in common with a gay man than with a straight woman. Yet, she is often denied entry into straight women’s spaces because of her history. So, she stays in the LGBTQ bubble—not because it fits perfectly, but because it’s safer than the outside.

Here’s the reality check: Every time a gay or lesbian person is told they’re "going through a phase," they feel a fraction of what a trans person feels every single day. The same machinery that hates gay people (religious fundamentalism, conservative politics) absolutely hates trans people.
