Overview Iron Fist is the superhero alias of Danny Rand , a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, he first appeared in Marvel Premiere #15 (May 1974). Unlike many vigilantes born from tragedy in a dark alley, Danny Rand’s origin is steeped in mysticism, martial arts, and lost cities. He is the champion of the mystical city of K'un-Lun, a master of all martial arts, and a man who can channel his chi (life energy) into a superhumanly powerful fist. Origin Story Danny Rand was the son of wealthy businessman Wendell Rand. Wendell had previously discovered the hidden, interdimensional city of K'un-Lun, where he learned martial arts but left to find fortune in the outside world. When Danny was nine years old, the Rand family embarked on an expedition to find K'un-Lun again. While traversing a treacherous mountain path in the Himalayas, Wendell was betrayed and pushed off a cliff by the family’s partner, Harold Meachum. Danny’s mother died trying to save her husband, leaving Danny alone in the frozen wilderness.
