Transcultural Martial Arts: Localization and Reception of Ip Man 4 in the Mongolian-Speaking Context ( Mongol Heleer Uzeh ) Author [Your Name / Institutional Affiliation] Date [Current Date] Abstract The Ip Man film series, centered on the life of the Wing Chun grandmaster and trainer of Bruce Lee, has achieved global popularity. However, its reception in non-mainstream linguistic markets—particularly Mongolian-speaking audiences—remains underexplored. This paper examines Ip Man 4: The Finale (2019) through the lens of Mongolian language accessibility, focusing on translation strategies (dubbing/subtitling), cultural adaptation of martial arts philosophy, and audience perception in Mongolia and Inner Mongolia. Using qualitative analysis of available dubbed/subtitled versions and viewer responses, the study argues that localized versions ( Mongol heleer uzeh – “to watch in Mongolian”) significantly enhance emotional engagement but risk diluting culturally specific Cantonese and nationalist themes. The paper concludes with recommendations for balanced localization in martial arts cinema.
