The Tycoon industrial zones hum with the sound of stamping metal, while Eco zones are filled with the gentle trickle of water and distant seabird calls. At launch, Anno 2070 was infamous for its aggressive "always-online" DRM (Digital Rights Management) via Ubisoft’s Uplay launcher. If your internet blinked, you lost progress. For a game that many play as a slow, meditative single-player experience, this was a cardinal sin.

The interface is showing its age. Managing 15 different islands' production screens requires a lot of clicking. Ubisoft eventually patched this. You can now play offline, though you lose access to the "Ark" item storage and global events. The community has also released fan patches that completely remove the launcher requirement. Verdict: Is It Worth Playing in 2026? Absolutely—with one caveat. At launch, Anno 2070 was infamous for its
