Act One: The Legend Under Siege The Shogun’s official historian, a corrupt bureaucrat named Matsudaira (a composite villain), is paid by Kira’s surviving family to rewrite the raid as a gang murder. Witnesses are bribed. Documents are forged. The ronin’s graves are threatened with disinterment.
Yoshichika is not a villain in the traditional sense. He believes his father was a political victim, framed by Lord Asano’s jealousy. He wants to restore his family’s honor. In a chilling scene, he meets Chiyo in a tea house and says:
